Apps, folders, and sites by hotkey. One key there, one key back.
Click the ⇄ icon in the menu bar and open Settings. Drag an app or folder onto the drop zone, then click the shortcut button on its row and press the key combination you want.
That's the point of Swapback. If you're already in the target app, pressing the same shortcut returns you to whatever you were using before. One key to move between two apps, in both directions.
Another app or macOS may already own that combination. If you see "May be taken by another app" while recording, pick a different one. Combinations that include ⌥ are usually safe.
A crowded menu bar hides icons, and on MacBooks with a notch they can end up tucked behind it.
To rearrange them, hold ⌘ and drag menu bar icons — move Swapback toward the clock. To free up room, turn off items you don't use in System Settings → Control Center.
Even with no icon, ⌥⌘, opens Settings, and your shortcuts and the ⌥0 palette keep working. Swapback is fully usable without its menu bar icon.
Go to Settings → Sites, enter a name and address, then click Add. Press ⌥0 to open the search palette, type the name, and press Return. If a tab with that site is already open, Swapback switches to it; otherwise it opens a new tab.
Only to find and focus an already-open tab for the site jump feature. Nothing about your browsing is stored or sent anywhere. If you decline, every other feature keeps working.
The folder was probably moved or deleted. Remove the entry in Settings and drag the folder in again.
Yes — your list syncs automatically between Macs signed in to the same iCloud account. Folders and files must be re-registered on each Mac, as required by macOS security.
